At the start of World War One, America remained neutral. But, after the Zimmerman Telegram from Germany to Mexico which offered American territory to Mexico in return for their allegiance and the attack by Germany on the Lusitania, a boat containing hundreds of Americans, the public opinion of the United States thrived to make the country go to war against Germany. As a result, on April 6, 1917, The United States of America officially declared war on Germany.
In this war, America was allied with the United Kingdom and France. US was enemies with Germany, Bulgaria, Austria-Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire.
During WWI, America was fully engaged as it fought hard to restore the peace in Europe. America sent a total of 4,355,000 soldiers to war. One of the major battles that America participated was the Battle of Belleau Wood. This battle occurred during 1918 as Germany pushed through France's lines. To respond to this action, the US reserve conducted a march over ten kilometers to act as a plug from the gap in the line which effectively defended the French territory.
As a result of America's participation in WWI, the Allies won the war and peace was restored to Europe.
